To arm two-way telemetry, what is the first step?

Enter the ID code of the EOT into the head-of-train device.

Two-way telemetry begins with establishing the correct link between the head-of-train device and the End of Train device. The EOT’s ID code is the unique address that identifies that specific device on the train. Entering that ID into the head-of-train device creates the addressed connection needed to communicate with the correct EOT. Without this address, the HOT wouldn’t know which EOT to pair with, especially on a train with multiple EOTs or when systems are reconfigured. Once the EOT ID is entered, the two devices can be powered up and tested against the correct target, ensuring the telemetry channel is properly armed.

Press the TEST button on the EOT.

Check the connection status on the head-of-train device.

Power up the head-of-train device.
